FREQUENTLY ASKEDConcerns & Questions

What does the counselling process look like?

The first session (1 hour) is an intake, where we discuss your smoking habits and motivation. The second session (1 hour) focuses on strengthening motivation and planning concrete steps. Follow-up sessions (30 minutes each) provide support and relapse prevention. The distribution of your reimbursed 4 hours per year can be adjusted to your personal needs.

How much does a tobacco counselling session cost?

The standard price is €70 per hour. If you live in Flanders, sessions with an accredited tobacco specialist are partly reimbursed by the government. In that case, you only pay €30 per hour (or €15 for 30 minutes).

Clients under 21 or with increased reimbursement pay even less – as little as €4 per hour.

Do I need medication to quit smoking?

Not always. Many clients succeed with psychological support alone. Nicotine replacement products (patches, gum, sprays) are available over the counter without a doctor’s prescription. If medical treatment is needed, such as prescription medication, it must be prescribed by your doctor. Combining psychological support with medical aids often leads to the best results.

How many sessions will I need to quit successfully?

This varies from person to person. Some clients feel ready after just a few sessions, while others benefit from longer follow-up. On average, the reimbursed 4 hours per year are enough to set you on the right track and support you in maintaining a smoke-free life.
